Summerside, www.myspace.com/summerside

Summerside is a four-piece band hailing from Burlington, Ontario, Canada. Summerside has been through its fair share of changes, includingSummerside.jpg
the coming and going of different members. It wasn't
until early 2008 that all the pieces of the puzzle would finally
come together and the current line-up would come to be.

The band spent the early part of 2007 writing and rehearsing and
preparing themselves for life in the recording studio. When it was
time, the band enlisted the help of record producer Tim O'Heir
(All American Rejects, Say Anything). They spent the summer of 2007 in New York City recording and refining their new music. Upon completion, they returned home and continued to play shows and steadily build their fan base.

Summerside has built some notoriety after playing dates with Universal Recording artist Hedley in early 2008.

Canuck punk icons--part Ramones, part rockabilly. Vets of Toronto's infamous Last Pogo, thirty years on they're
still knocking out audiences with straight-ahead rock 'n' roll party music. If you never got to see Dee Dee or Joey or you wonder what Eddie Cochrane was all about, check out Teenage Head.

2 PM – The Brown Hornets, www.myspace.com/thebrownhornets

After 1000 performances throughout N. America, the Brown Hornets have cultivated a live show of heavy-duty proportions. The Hornets murdalize people with a hyperactive cocktail of heavenly gospel, soul and rock & roll…or more succinctly put, 'Shit Tearing Blues' (NOW Magazine). They've crawled, slugged, and humped their way to festivals such as: MEANY New York, Verge Boston, Lilac Festival Rochester, Pop Montreal, NXNE, and CMW. In fact, the Hornets were the last Cndn. band to perform at New York's CBGBs. They've also had the good fortune of playing with BB King, RL Burnside, Danko Jones, Constantines, John Sebastian, King Khan, Supagroup, Two Gallants, C'Mon, Mongrels (ex Tricky Woo), and Grimskunk. Not at the same time, of course. I've exhausted my ability to write 3rd person about my band. Expect hip thrusts, spilled drinks, busted crap, rotten bananas, and an old timey kissing booth.

3 PMWeareBalboa.jpg
We Are Balboa, www.myspace.com/wearebalboa

WE ARE BALBOA are possibly the coolest band in sunny Spain right now.  Their energy, and mesmerizing concerts has got them top slots at the most important summer festivals (on just before the headlining bands), as well as supporting great bands such as Mudhoney, The Sounds, The Charlatans, and touring all over the place. One of their heartwarming concerts at London's Astoria dazzled hip UK producer Jon Gray (who has also worked with The Subways, Snow Patrol or Editors) so much, he decided to produce thier debut album. They have just got back from their latest UK tour, and playing the Eurosonic Festival in Holland as the only Spanish band. Their tunes mix delicate and rich sounding guitar riffs with a crunchy rhythm section and honey drenched female vocals which will make you want to drop it all and sing along to their songs at the top of your voice! Don't miss out watching them live!

Ladyhawk, www.ladyhawkladyhawk.com
ladyhawk.jpg
Ladyhawk are in vampire pose, filling their days waiting, only coming out after dark to stalk the streets ready for blood, then stumbling home drunk before dawn. Or like ghosts, drifting through the halls of the darkened house thinking about how they used to live there. Or sometimes ending up outside, staring into the cold moon for what seems like hours and seeing nothing - going back inside and seeing only a mask in the bathroom mirror. This is Ladyhawk's death trip, lining up a round of shots on the edge of the grave.

Ladyhawk's kiss-of-death evokes the devilish sounds of Goats Head Soup guitars, the honey-slides and howling of Neil Young in his darkest hours, and the phantoms that haunted Roky Erickson at the Holiday Inn. Recorded over a period of two weeks in an abandoned farm house behind the shopping mall in the band's childhood hometown of Kelowna, British Columbia, Shots is an album filled with the cold creaking and ghostly echoes of the old house in the dead of winter. Like a party for the last house standing in a sea of strip malls and condos, surely near the end of its time.

DeathSet.jpg
7 PM
Death Set, www.thedeathset.com

Originally from Sydney, now Baltimore-based,
TheDeathSet have traversed the world's punk and
club circuits, delivering their super high-energy spaz
attack. They use just two highly distorted guitars and
mics, with a third member being their post-casiotone,
electronic backing beats. A faster,  punkier Devo for
21-C attention spans.

8 PM
Hospital Bombers, www.myspace.com/hospitalbombersatmyspace

Hospital Bombers, we are the Hos-pi-tal Bom-bers.Hospital Bombers are 3 boys & 1 girl from Amsterdam, Holland. They play Stadium Folk, with vocals, guitar, violin, philicorda, bassguitar, & drums. They only know 3 chords.

hospitalbombs.jpg
They do not know where you can buy weed around here.
They all love peanut butter, the Velvet Underground & the
Mountain Goats. They released a first EP, Satan's Fingers,
in 2006, and their debut album Footnotes december 2007, on Holland's premier indie label Excelsior Recordings, to nationwide acclaim.

9 PM
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, www.tedleo.com

Maybe the dilapidated garages and all-ages clubs of the East Coast post-hardcore scene of the late 80s is a fitting place to begin our story. That's where the chronicle of our era's ever-humble valedictorian, Ted Leo, really gets interesting, anyway. It was here in bands Citizen's Arrest and Animal Crackers (and later as the main song writer in Chisel) that Ted developed a sharpened political prowess, an assiduous commitment to his Gibson ES-335, an ear for melody, and charisma contagious enough to be considered chemical weaponry. A mod-punk savant in an age where punk (like practically everything intangible we've ever expressed interest in) has been replaced by product. With his latest, Living with the Living, Ted Leo delivers that existentialist ethos to a new crop of rude boys.

The John Henrys, www.thejohnhenrys.com

Their music emerges from rich traditions, but the John Henrys' sound is refreshingly original.  They straddle the dividethejohnhenrys.jpg between sweet country and 60's R&B. They hail from Ottawa Ontario, but the band's stories drift out of nooks and crannies from all across Canada.  From love on the Prairies to loss in the Yukon, they translate the Canadian conscience.  Recorded and produced by the band at their rehearsal space/studio, The John Henrys' album "Sweet as the Grain" jumped to the #1 position on the iTunes Canada Roots Albums chart and #1 on the Exclaim Earshot  National Campus Radio Folk/Roots chart in its week of release.

Her 2006 Top Ten Records of 2006, alongside releases by fellow songstresses Cat Power & Neko Case. Thomas' latest release entitled, Blood Heron (renovation tracks) is set for release in fall 08. A record meshed somewhere between the worlds of Sufjan Stevens, Bob Dylan and Tom Waits, Thomas sounds something like Stevie Nicks  singing twisted porch tunes that will make your fingers twitch and your hair quiver. Expect tales of gunslingers, betrayal release, "You and Me Against the World Baby" (IRL UK) was ranked as one of the Georgia Straight, Vancouver'sPriya Thomas has been a critical favorite for more than a decade, and has long been considered one of the most innovative Canadian acts flying under the radar. Best known for her lyrical literacy and incendiary live performances, Priya Thomas has shared the stage with Radiohead, John Cale, The Fall, The Dears, James and others. and love gone wrong; every last detail of the coroner's report whispered carefully into your ears, with little more than a ukelele, sawblade percussion and hypnotic vocals.

6 PM
Kreesha Turner, www.kreeshaturner.com

KreeshaTurner.jpgIn 2005, she won a talent search contest sponsored by Edmonton radio station 91.7 FM The Bounce and was given the chance to record four tracks with Vancouver-based writers/producers Hipjoint. One of those songs, "Bounce With Me," became a radio hit and attracted the attention of urban music manager Chris Smith (Nelly Furtado, Tamia). The song she describes as "fun" has been featured in episodes of Gossip Girl and Entourage as well as in promos for Lipstick Jungle.
A lot will be said and written about Kreesha Turner's exciting debut album Passion and its eclectic blend of soulful, jazzy, pop-infused R&B. But for the young artist whose sweet soprano shines on every track, the album can be described quite simply. "It's just good music to enjoy and listen to over and over again," says Kreesha.

On Passion, Kreesha collaborated with some of the best in the business including Grammy Award-winning songwriter Harold Lilly (Alicia Keys, Janet Jackson), producer Devo Springsteen, another Grammy winner (John Legend, Aretha Franklin) and Toronto-based songwriter and producer Jon Levine (Philosopher Kings, Nelly Furtado).

7 PM
Spookey Ruben,  www.myspace.com/spookeyruben

To call Ottawa-born Spookey Ruben's music genre-defying and challenging would be as much of an understatement as calling the universe a pretty big place. Now based in LA, and a frequent collaborator with Tortoise, Ruben's musicspookeyruben.jpg is like progresive power-pop with oodles of melody and texture. Freaking amazing.

8 PM
Beast, www.myspace.com/beastsound

beast.jpgBeast is an experimental union between the powerful and sensual voice of Beatrice Bonifassi and the dirty, in your face, beats of composer and drummer Jean-Phi Goncalves, both  as Betty and Jean-Phi. After having wonderfully performed on the 2004 Oscar Winner Sound Track – The Triplettes de Belleville – Betty has joined since then her voice and her songwriter skills to Dj Champion to create, once again, a major impact on the local, national and international music industry.

Betty's uniquely textured voice charmed and inspired Jean-Phi, leader of Montreal's new sensation band, Plaster. For his part, Jean-Phi has made eclecticism his own speciality. Lead drummer and original electro-jazz composer, he has taken part to many projects. From Lauryn Hill (Fugees) to Jean-Pierre Ferland (Jaune 2005), Ariane Moffat (albums/shows), Pierre Lapointe and Daniel Bélanger.

Bran Van 3000, www.bv3k.com

Famed Montreal electronica collective founded by
DJ James Di Salvio. The band struck big with
1997's "Drinking in LA," the couldn't-avoid song
of the summer. Now they're back with a new
album, drawing on their signature combo of i
ronic raps, founds sounds, and funky grooves.
