NXNE “RIGHT TO PLAY” ANNUAL CHARITY SOCCER FOOTIE MATCH: June 21, 2009
Every year, as the last day of NXNE rears its bleary head, staffers drag themselves out from under wherever they’ve spent the last couple of hours and cart their shattered bodies down to BMO Field. There, they’re joined by equally tired but game festival musicians and members of the fourth estate–er, the media. Everyone straps on the boots and goes at it, all in the name of raising money for Right to Play (and sweating out the last 96 hours’ toxins).
2008′s match was played in four seasons’ worth of weather. The Musicians were coached by TFC star Rohan Ricketts, who seemed to know a thing or two about coaxing the best from sozzled bodies.
"No no--come off BEFORE you heave ho, son!"
Once again, the Musicians triumphed over the Media, 2-1. Media are determined to rectify the result in 09′s exciting re-match.
