Whew...almost there! As we get close to finalizing programming, here's this week's sample of some confirmed acts for NXNE 2008, coming your way in June!
Crash the Car (Whitehorse, Canada)
Crash the Car swings into Toronto from sunny Whitehorse, YT. Songwriter Kyle Cashen's tunes echo Neil Young via Pearl Jam and Calexico. With bandmates Jordy Walker and Micah Smith, Cashen turns out melodic, mysterious, songs. Maybe it's just us--but we think that somewhere in there, we hear the space and slow pulse of those big northern landscapes.
Kapow! (Brooklyn, NY)
Following a two-year stint with The Fiery Furnaces and Franz Ferdinand, Toshi Yano returned to his first love--writing frantic, inspired, epic pop gems. With an eclectic handful of seasoned New York musicians, Yano formed Kapow! and released a 3-song demo. These days, the band regularly plays shows supporting The Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, The Fiery Furnaces, Blood On The Wall, Enon, Love As Laughter and We Are Wolves.
Muchos Backflips (Austin, TX)
Here's what it says about them: "Metal, hip-hop, jazz: they're all molten alloys used for the creation of toy-bots programmed to rock you into submission so they can massage you into euphoria." Normally, we'd be suspicious of press with so many big words--but these guys warrant the hyperbole. This is some weird shit. Impossible to describe but ridiculously captivating.
