BBC at NXNE redux

NXNE will again host high-octane British this June, including legendary radio host Bob Harris. Here's the word from the Beeb:Bob_Harris_2.JPG

"BBC Radio 2 is pleased to announce that it will be broadcasting two shows live from NXNE 08. Bob Harris, who had to postpone his visit to the festival last year due to ill health, will be presenting his Bob Harris Country and Bob Harris Saturday show live from Toronto. The Saturday show will feature highlights from the festival including a special evening dedicated to some of Bob's favourite Canadian acts. Al Booth, executive producer at BBC Radio 2 says, 'We're all thrilled at being able to attend the festival again this year. Last year we made some great programmes which included sessions and interviews with artists appearing at the festival, and highlights from the fantastic night at Lee's Palace, featuring artists like Blue Rodeo, Kathleen Edwards, Justin Rutledge and Ron Sexsmith. It's fantastic that Bob can make it this year, and it gives us the chance to immerse ourselves even more in the NXNE experience and convey the excitement of the Canadian music scene to the British audience.'

It was the kind of instant community a great fest like SXSW spawns, and in this case, patience was rewarded with a killer set from the Scandinavian sextet inside.

TSOOL puts on everything a rock show should be. They're great performers, players and songwriters, channeling early Who, mid-period Stones, and late Velvet Underground. But unlike so many derivative bands over the years, TSOOL have taken those classic ingredients and created their own sonic stew. If you don't know their stuff, check out "Sister Surround" on the NXNE player (above right) or grab some tracks off iTunes.

The show went over time, and capped four stunning days & nights of music in a town that seems to exist for live music. NXNE's two club showcases and annual Caswell House bbq were highlights for hundreds of Canucks in Texas, most of whom straggled back Sunday or Monday to spend the rest of the week processing what went down...
